About the event
This textile art class in London focuses on creating a rainbow of colours from natural dyes using madder, weld and indigo. Guided by your experienced teacher, you'll learn how to make dye baths using madder root and dried weld. A pre-prepared fructose based indigo vat will be ready to use on the day and you'll learn how to use the vat to create the best colours. You'll have a variety of fibres to dye and overdye to create a wonderful rainbow of shades. You'll also explore simple shibori techniques to create interesting patterns and see how the colours interact with each other. The fibres you'll use in this textile art class include cotton, linen, wool, and silk. If you don't want to use animal-based fibres, please let your teacher know so they can ensure there's plenty of suitable fabric for you to use. This craft class is held at your teacher's dedicated dyeing studio. There are some steps to access the studio so please let your teacher know if you have mobility issues. By the end of your textile art class, you'll have some beautiful naturally dyed fabrics to take home, along with a wealth of knowledge on fabric dyeing to use for future projects.
